How can athletes benefit from our care?

1. Functional Screens

The athlete performs specifically designed exercises while the Dr. Heather determines what muscles or joints need more attention. She can get an idea of what muscles and joints are improperly functioning and can then design a home care and rehabilitation program from this information based on your needs.
2. Sport Specific Exercises
     Dr. Heather will design specific exercise protocols based upon what sport you play and also use the information she gathers in the functional screens. These exercises are designed to mimic the same movements made during each type of sport and thus can make the muscles more functional for the athlete during game time.
3. Dynamic Warm-Up Program
    Dr. Heather will take specifically designed exercises for each muscle group being used in a sport and create a "warm-up" which will activate the muscles properly, create more blood flow to the area, and create more functional flexibility before a game. This will allow a proper stretch of the muscles and create the opportunity for less injury to occur, which is better than the static stretching that has been taught in the past.
4. Injury Prevention Exercises
    Dr. Heather will look at the weak muscles that have not been properly activated and will give the athlete exercises to activate those muscles. This creates a balance of the body and will provide an environment for less injury to occur on an everyday basis. We have a 4 step Rehabilitation program:
            1) Muscle Activation/Range of Motion/Flexibility-->2) Strength-->3) Proprioception-->4) Ballistic Loading
5. Chiropractic Adjustments
    The chiropractic adjustment can benefit anyone. However, it definitely creates more mobility in an athlete and allows them to perform at their optimal performance when added into the exercise program. This will create the best balance and allow proper order of the injury prevention process.
6. Manual Muscle Therapies
     Whether we use ART or any other manual muscle therapy, this will break up any scar tissue and muscle adhesions still lingering in the muscles. This step is crucial in creating the optimal flexibility within a muscle.
7. Core Stability Training
    The muscles that make up the core are very important for endurance in athletics and injury prevention.  A weak core is like having a cell phone without a battery. Proper core stability training is crucial in injury prevention. Not only can it decrease the prevelence of low back pain, but it can also decrease the amount of injuries in the knees, hips, ankles, and shoulders.
8. Pharmaceutical Grade Supplements
    It is important for athletes to have the highest quality supplements to increase sports performance. Dr. Heather ensures that her patients have the opportunity to receive the same type of suppelements taken by professional athletes.
